Chatham-Kent dog owners who have not purchased dog tags yet this year could face a $240 fine.
The municipality will soon be sending animal control officers door-to-door to enforce the purchase of dog tags. Representatives from Pet and Wildlife Rescue (PAWR) will be contacting anyone who hasn't purchased a 2025 municipal dog licence.
The Animal Ownership By-law requires that all dog owners purchase dog tags each year.
The cost of a licence for dogs that have been spayed or neutered is $29.75. For dogs that haven't been spayed or neutered, the fee is $40.50. An additional $10 late fee will be added for tags purchased after March 31.
Dog tags can be purchased at the animal shelter in Chatham or at any municipal office. They can also be purchased online here, and the tag will be mailed to you.
If you no longer own a dog and would like to deactivate your dog licence account, you can do so by calling 311 or 519-360-1998 and pressing 0.
The municipality wants to remind residents that by-law enforcement officers will be wearing animal control uniforms, including name tags.
