A truck driver is looking to enter the field of municipal politics through the upcoming Chatham-Kent (CK) election.
Andy Fisher is running to be one of two Ward 8 Councillors, representing the southern part of Chatham.
He told CK News Today he decided to put his hat in the ring to help stop what he believes is excessive spending at the municipality.
"Right now, there's a majority at city hall that likes to spend way too much money, and I want to even things out," said Fisher.
If elected, Fisher would try to find savings to lower the tax burden on residents.
Another issue top of mind for Fisher is the housing and homeless crisis.
"I would hope that we could work together with the community to try and come up with a solution. Seems like right now, it's up in the air as to what to do about it," he added.
Despite having no prior political experience, Fisher believes he has the work ethic needed for the job.
"I'm a very hard worker, I'm tenacious, and I'm looking to work hard for my neighbours," he said.
CK's election will be on October 26, 2026.
