Knights Bit by Steelheads 4-1

The London Knights outshot the Mississauga Steelheads Sunday afternoon, but the Steelheads prevailed in goals 4-1 at the Hershey Centre.

The Knights had the edge in shots by a 41-38 count, but Mississauga goaltender Matthew Mancina turned away all but one of them.  Despite the loss, the Knights remain in first place in the OHL Midwest Division with 57 points, two points ahead of the Erie Otters.

A scoreless tie was not broken until 7:06 in the second period.  Nicolas Hague got the Steelheads going with his 14th goal of the season, on the power play.  Mississauga had a 3-0 lead by the second intermission, all on the power play.  Owen Tippett picked up his first goal of the game at 16:30 in the frame, and Nathan Bastian contributed a goal of his own 31 seconds before the break.

Cliff Pu scored London's only goal in the third period, a power play tally with Robert Thomas and Olli Juolevi assisting.  Tippett picked up his second goal of the afternoon in the dying minutes of regulation, also on the power play.

Jordan Kooy was in net for the first two periods for London, but was pulled for Tyler Johnson in the third.  Kooy faced 24 of Mississauga's 38 shots and stopped 21 of them.

The Knights return to Budweiser Gardens Friday night when the Saginaw Spirit come to town.
