Flood Warning Issued For Region

With water levels continuing to rise, the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority (UTRCA) has issued a flood warning for the region.

Conservation officials say the watershed has received 25-40 mm of rain since Monday afternoon, and an additional 15-25 mm of rainfall is forecast by Wednesday morning.

As of 6pm, peak water levels are expected to occur in upstream areas such as Mitchell, Stratford, St. Marys, Woodstock, and Ingersoll overnight.  Peak water levels will hit London Wednesday morning.

The City of London has closed the following roads due to high water levels:

  • Hamilton Rd. between Commissioners Rd. and Clarke Rd.
  • Dingman Rd. between Old Victoria Rd. and Highbury Ave.
  • Westminster Rd. east of Wonderland Rd.
  • Hume St. at Sycamore St.
  • Windermere Rd. between Adelaide St. N and Doon Dr.
  • Walnut St. from Riverside Dr. to Cavendish Cres.
  • Wyatt St. from Wharncliffe Rd. N to Cavendish Cres.
  • Wonderland Rd. is closed in both directions at Riverside Dr.
  • Riverside Dr. is closed in both directions just east of Wharncliffe Rd.
Residents are urged to use extreme caution near all watercourses and to keep children and pets away. Stream banks are very slippery and water will be fast-moving, cold and dangerous and any ice cover is unstable and thin.

A boating ban is also in effect in the City of London.
