Another second half by the opponent did the London Lightning in once more Sunday.
For the second night in a row, the Lightning were stifled late in the game, this time in a 123-97 loss to the Kitchener-Waterloo Titans at Budweiser Gardens. The loss drops London to the 500 mark at 4-4 on the season.
The 26-point loss followed a 24-point defeat Saturday night at the hands of the previously 1-5 Saint John Riptide.
The first half was relatively close, with the Lightning clinging to a razor-thin 45-43 advantage at halftime. The Titans opened things up in the third, outscoring London 37-29, then dominating in the fourth quarter with a 20-point difference in offence.
Marvin Phillips led the Lightning with 23 points. Garrett Williamson followed close behind with 20 points and Maurice Bolden added 12. Bolden also collected a double-double, leading London on defence with 14 rebounds, 12 of them defensive.
Joel Friesen led all scorers with 31 points off the bench for the Titans. Damon Lynn put through 16 points and Derek Hall added 15, along with a team-leading eight rebounds.
London returns to action Saturday night when they host the Sudbury Five.
