Police raid Chippewa pot shop

Two people are facing charges after police raided an illegal marijuana dispensary in an Indigenous community southwest of London.

Officers with the OPP and the Chippewa of the Thames First Nation Police searched the pot shop on Three Fires Road in the Chippewa of the Thames First Nation on Thursday. Among the items seized was a cannabis resin extraction machine, cannabis resin (Shatter), and edibles.

A 46-year-old man and a 40-year-old man, both from the Chippewa of the Thames First Nation, were arrested and are now charged under the Federal Cannabis Act with possession of cannabis for the purpose of selling. The pair will appear in London court in relation to the charge on a later date.

According to police, they are working to dismantle organized crime groups, eliminate the illegal cannabis supply, remove illegal cannabis enterprises such as storefronts and online, and target the proceeds of crime and assets.

Over the past two weeks, police have raided illegal pot shops in London, charging a total of 22 people and two landlords.
