A call for generosity was answered loud and clear by Londoners this holiday season.
The Salvation Army reported Wednesday that the total amount of money donated to its Christmas Kettle Campaign exceeded its goal by nearly $50,000. The goal for the 2018 campaign was $550,000. According to Salvation Army spokesperson Shannon Wise, donations totalled $597,186. While the total was more than what was hoped for, it was far less than the $627,000 that was donated in 2017.
“London’s Christmas Kettle Campaign result is a testament to our extremely generous and compassionate community,” said Wise in a statement released Wednesday. “We are deeply grateful to our many volunteers, donors and community partners—because of your efforts The Salvation Army will be able to continue providing valuable services to the most vulnerable in London all-year-round.”
According to the Salvation Army, it distributed 4,402 food hampers to local families and individuals over the Christmas season. More than 6,500 children received a bag of toys.
Nationally this holiday season, The Salvation Army’s Christmas Kettle Campaign raised over $23 million.
