Middlesex lands new long-term care beds

More spaces for seniors in need of long-term care are being created in Middlesex County.

Infrastructure Minister and Lambton-Kent-Middlesex MPP Monte McNaughton announced Tuesday the provincial government is adding 1,157 new long-term care beds across Ontario. Of those, 49 will be located in Middlesex.

"With these additional spaces, our government is working to ease pressure on health-care providers, to work more efficiently and provide better, faster health care for Ontario families and patients," said McNaughton.

Sprucedale Care Centre in Strathroy will get the bulk of the new local beds, adding 32. Craigwiel Gardens in Ailsa Craig will receive nine new beds, while Omni Health Care Ltd. in Komoka will get eight.

McNaughton also announced the redevelopment of 203 existing beds in long-term care homes in his riding - 120 at Omni Health and 83 at Craigwiel Gardens.

"We envision a health care system that allows seniors to enjoy the highest possible quality of life," said McNaughton.

The Progressive Conservative government has vowed to add 15,000 long-term care spaces across the province over five years.
