The cause of a fire that sent two people, including a firefighter, to hospital will go down as "undetermined."
Fire crews were called to 1004 Oxford St. E around 6:30 a.m. last Thursday. A fire had broken out in a building that houses a convenience store and second-floor apartments that are home to 10 people. One of the residents was injured when he jumped from a window to escape the blaze. A firefighter suffered minor injuries while battling the fire.
Representatives from the Ontario Fire Marshall's Office came to the scene to assist the London Fire Department and London police in the investigation into the cause of the fire. But Deputy Fire Chief Jack Burt said they weren't able to determine the cause.
"Due to the destructive nature in the area of origin of the fire, it was hard for us to determine what the actual cause was and hence, this fire will be listed as an undetermined fire," Burt said.
While an official damage estimate has not been made, Burt said it's likely to be in the $500,000 range.
