A Fanshawe College professor could be walking away with a gilded gramophone after being nominated for a 2020 Grammy Award.
Professor Dan Brodbeck, who is also the Music Industry Arts program coordinator, has been nominated in the "Best Rock Album" category for his work on the album In The End by Irish alt-rock group the Cranberries. The album is the band's eighth and final studio album.
Brodbeck worked as an engineer on some of the album and also co-wrote the track "Summer Song" with lead singer Dolores O’Riordan. O’Riordan, who was a close friend of Brodbeck's, recorded the song before her death in January 2018.
Prior to O'Riordan's death, Brodbeck worked with her as a recording engineer, co-writer and guitarist, which led to the Fanshawe professor winning a Juno Award in 2010 for "Recording Engineer of the Year" for his work on the songs "Apple of My Eye" and "Be Careful." In 2017, he was nominated for "Record Producer of The Year" at the Country Music Association of Ontario Awards for his work on Dani Strong's album "Time To Breathe."
The 2020 Grammy Awards will be held at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles, California on January 27, 2020.
