Two weeks after a two-vehicle crash claimed the life of a Courtright man, a St. Thomas woman has been charged with driving while impaired.
Darcy Krauza, 60, of Courtright was riding his motorcycle on Sunset Drive, just south of Wilson Avenue in St. Thomas around 4:30 p.m. on May 16 when an SUV, headed in the opposite direction, crossed over the centre line and collided with his bike.
Krauza was one of several motorcycle riders who had driven their bikes to St. Thomas for a drive-by birthday celebration for a 12-year-old boy.
Krauza was pronounced dead in hospital. His 22-year-old female passenger suffered serious injuries.
The SUV driver, 59-year-old Elizabeth Sweezie of St. Thomas, also suffered unspecified injuries in the crash.
Following two weeks of investigation by the St. Thomas accident reconstruction unit and the criminal investigation unit that included an appeal for witnesses to the collision to come forward, Sweezie was arrested.
She is now charged with one count each of impaired driving causing death and dangerous driving causing death.
