A London man faces charges after an incident in an east London neighbourhood that led police to ask the public to avoid the area.
Police were called around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday to the area of Brisbin Street and Dakin Street regarding an assault. According to police, after witnessing the assault, a number of residents confronted a man and told him to leave the neighbourhood. The man is alleged to have assaulted two males, threatened a woman, and damaged a property. The two males suffered minor injuries.
When more residents came out of their homes to confront the man, police say he grabbed a pipe and threatened to kill them.
Police searched the area but did not find the man.
Around 1 p.m., a 911 call was made about a man outside a home on Brisbin Street who was holding what appeared to be a rifle. Police responded to the area and asked people to avoid the neighbourhood.
"Uniformed officers, with the assistance of members of the LPS Emergency Response Unit, remained on scene until a search warrant was executed shortly after 8:00 p.m., at which point the suspect was arrested," police said in a news release issued Thursday.
Darren Joseph Summers, 18, of London is charged with assault, assault with a weapon, two counts of uttering death threats, and two counts of mischief under $5,000.
The investigation continues, and investigators are asking anyone with information to contact police.
