London is temporarily halting all of its city-run recreation programs and skating lessons.
The decision comes as new restrictions from the Middlesex London Health Unit to stop the spread of COVID-19 come into effect on Saturday.
"Participants who have registered for a City-run program at a community centre or arena starting this Saturday will receive a direct notification about this change and receive a refund or credit to their account for paid programs," the city said in a statement.
City staff are working with the health unit to modify the programs to meet new health measures.
Middlesex London Medical Officer of Health Dr. Chris Mackie announced the new restrictions earlier this week for gyms, recreation centres, restaurants, bars, and personal care services. Under the new measures, class sizes at fitness facilities in London and Middlesex County are capped at 10 and participants have to maintain three metres of physical distance between one another. Instructors are also required to wear face coverings.
Any facility or business found in violation of the restrictions could be fined up to $25,000.
It is unknown when recreation programs will resume, but the city stated it will share new program details and modified schedules as soon as they have been determined.
Aquatic programs will operate as normal, the city said.
