A townhouse fire in northeast London has claimed the life of a man and a dog.
London firefighters were called to 48 Arbour Glen Crescent north of Kipps Lane around 11:40 p.m. Wednesday.
"Upon arrival, our crews made entry and were able to do a primary search. They encountered high heat and low visibility due to thick black smoke," said Platoon Chief Colin Shewell. "They found an adult and a dog inside. The individual was unresponsive when found and was determined decreased on scene."
The dog also died in the fire.
No other injuries were reported.
"The London Police Service and our investigator have interviewed neighbours, witnesses, as well as our fire crews to get a full picture of what may have happened leading up to and during the fire," said Shewell. "They will be putting all of that information together, along with a physical inspection starting from the outside into this unit."
The Ontario Fire Marshal arrived on scene for the investigation Thursday morning. So far, officials say there were no working smoke alarms inside the home. An official cause has not yet been determined and the investigation is ongoing.
Damage is estimated at $250,000.
