Strong winds could snap trees, down power lines Monday

It's going to be a windy day Monday, especially for those to the east of London.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Oxford and Brant counties.

Winds are expected to gust up to 80 km/h Monday afternoon, which could lead to loose objects being tossed around, broken tree branches, and downed power lines.

Winds will be up in Middlesex-London and Elgin County, but not quite enough to warrant an advisory from the national weather agency.

A blowing snow advisory has also been issued for Middlesex-London, Oxford-Brant, and Elgin County. Flurries will move across the region Monday afternoon dropping between 2 to 5 cm. The snow coupled with the gusting winds will significantly and suddenly reduce visibility on the roads. The worst spots will be in open areas, such as roads that run along open fields.

"If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop. Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve," said Environment Canada.

The strong winds will die down across southwestern Ontario by Monday night.
