The public is asked to avoid part of Hyde Park Road this Sunday while police follow up on an ongoing investigation.
Starting Sunday at 8 a.m., north and southbound traffic on Hyde Park Road between Gainsborough Road and Sarnia Road, along with the east and westbound lanes of South Carriage Road, will be closed until 1 p.m.
According to London police, workers will be on scene to take a photographic scan of the intersection as part of an ongoing police investigation.
On June 6, 2021, a Muslim family of five was run down and killed by the driver of a pick-up truck at the intersection of Hyde Park Road and South Carriage Road while out for an evening walk.
Salman Afzaal, 46, his wife Madiha Salman, 44, their 15-year-old daughter Yumna Afzaal and Salman Afzaal’s 74-year-old mother Talat Afzaal were killed. Only Salman and Madiha's 9-year-old son, Fayez Salman survived the attack.
Following the incident, 20-year-old Nathaniel Veltman was arrested. In the months following the crash, Veltman has made a series of brief court appearances in relation to charges including first-degree murder, attempted murder. Prosecutors allege the deadly hit-and-run constitutes an act of terrorism.
A publication ban on the evidence presented in the case has been put in place.
During Sunday's closure, traffic barricades will be in place. Updates on the status of the road closure will be posted to London police social media accounts.
