Wednesday's morning commute could be a slippery one as a system packing a messy mix of freezing rain, rain, and strong winds is expected to hit the London region.
Environment Canada has issued a freezing rain warning for London, Middlesex County, Oxford County, and Huron-Perth. The warning was issued hours after the weather agency had issued a special weather statement for the region.
Freezing rain is expected to start falling after midnight, with up to 4 mm of ice accretion possible. However, there is some uncertainty regarding the amount of freezing rain as temperatures will be hovering near the freezing mark, Environment Canada noted.
The freezing rain will switch over to rain by Wednesday afternoon. Rainfall totals of 10 to 25 mm may lead to some localized flooding, forecasters said.
In addition to the wet and icy weather, winds are expected to gust up to 70 km/h.
The combination of strong winds and ice could lead to power outages and dangerous driving conditions. Drivers are advised to leave extra time to get to their destination.
