St. Thomas police respond to bomb threat

St. Thomas police searched a school on Monday afternoon after officers received word about a possible bomb threat.

According to investigators, police received the threat over a telephone call at around 1 p.m.

Police were led to believe the threat was for a school in the city’s south end.

Officers subsequently attended St. Joseph's Catholic High School and conducted a preliminary search of the building, however police did not locate anything suspicious. Additional searches were done both inside and outside the school by police officials, along with some assistance from school staff.

“Nothing suspicious was located. At no time was there believed to be a credible threat to the safety of students or staff of the school,” read a statement from the St. Thomas Police Service.

Police continue to investigate the incident and probe the source of the threat. Additional information will be provided as it becomes available, police said.
