It will be a sight for sore eyes for drivers in north London.
The intersection of Richmond Street and Fanshawe Park Road has been fully reopened to traffic, the City of London announced on Wednesday.
Drivers in the area had been dealing with lane restrictions and closures since the start of June. This was to carry out the first phase of the Fanshawe Park Road and Richmond Street Intersection Improvements project. The new design of the intersection includes additional left-turn lanes along Richmond and a new centre median to enhance safety and accommodate existing and future travel demands.
Sidewalks and in-boulevard asphalt bike paths were also added to the area for pedestrians and cyclists and upgrades were made to street lighting and traffic signals.
Drivers can expect intermittent lane reductions over the next few weeks, as crews remain on site completing "miscellaneous" work.
"It has been a busy construction season in London, and we want to thank Londoners for their patience while this important work was underway," the city said in a statement.
Next spring, phase 2 of the project will move forward along Fanshawe Park Road between both east and west legs of North Centre Road. The city plans to add additional through lanes on Fanshawe, new concrete sidewalks, upgrade underground infrastructure and enhancement in-boulevard bike paths.
