City trucks, equipment on display for Londoners Saturday

If you've ever dreamed of sitting behind the wheel of a snow plow or stepping into the bucket of a forestry truck, your dreams can come true this weekend.

The City of London will hold its Touch-a-Truck event at Earl Nichols Recreation Centre from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday. Nearly 30 trucks and several pieces of equipment from the city's public works department will be on display. The event is being held to mark the end of National Public Works Week.

Among the trucks that attendees will be able to see up close is a forestry operations bucket truck that helps crews trim and maintain trees, a snow plow, and a water operations hydro excavator that helps dig holes for water pipe repairs. One of the waste collection trucks that collects green bin materials and garbage in separate compartments will also be on hand.

Adults and kids can learn about the different trucks for the workers who operate them on a day-to-day basis.

Children will be able to help paint the front of a snow plow that will then be used this winter to clear city streets. They can also put on hard hats, vests and other personal protective gear at the dress like a public works employee themed photo booth.

A special recruitment booth where anyone interested in a career with the city can learn more will be set-up through the three hour event.

While the event is free to attend, the city is asking Londoners to consider bringing a non-perishable food donation for the London Food Bank.
