A six-month pilot project to increase engagement between London police and the community has come to an end.
Police announced on Monday the community engagement centre at CF Masonville Place has closed. The outreach space was opened in December to allow the service's sworn, civilian, and auxiliary members a new unique way of engaging with the public. It was staffed every weekday from noon until 3 p.m.
“We’re grateful for Cadillac Fairview’s generosity in providing us with storefront space inside CF Masonville Place," said Deputy Chief Paul Bastien. “This partnership was a great opportunity for us to engage with the community on a personal level – to share information, to answer questions, and to get to know each other a little.”
Over the six months the centre was open, police offered education on auto theft prevention, fraud prevention, crime prevention reduction, recruitment and an introduction to the service's forensic identification unit. Police also hosted many other drop-in meetings in the space.
