Knights forward suspended from Wednesday's game

Knights forward Sawyer Boulton won't be on the ice Wednesday night when London takes on Saginaw at the Memorial Cup.

The Memorial Cup Games Committee has announced Boulton was handed a one game suspension that will be served during the Knights/Spirit match-up. Additionally, the Knights have been fined $1,000.

The penalty against the 19-year-old and the team stems from a pregame warm-up violation against the Moose Jaw Warriors on Monday. According to the Canadian Hockey League, Boulton made unnecessary contact with a Moose Jaw player while exiting the ice following the completion of the warm-up.

Boulton's suspension comes as the Knights are on the cusp of playing in the Memorial Cup final. If the team beats Saginaw Wednesday, it would automatically get a spot in the championship.

This is not the first time Boulton has been penalized for an aggressive incident. In December, he was suspended for 10 games after elbowing Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds captain Bryce McConnell-Barker in the head during the third period of a game between the two teams.

A viewing party for Wednesday night's game is being held on London's flex-street, Dundas Place. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m.
