High levels of air pollution are possible this afternoon.

An AIR QUALITY WARNING is in place due to the possibility of deteriorating air quality. Hot and sunny conditions are expected to cause increasing ground-level ozone concentrations this afternoon. Moderate risk AQHI values are expected throughout the day with the potential of short-term high risk AQHI values in the afternoon.

When air pollution levels are high, everyone should limit time outdoors. Consider reducing or rescheduling outdoor sports, activities and events.

You may experience mild and common symptoms such as eye, nose and throat irritation, headaches or a mild cough. More serious but less common symptoms include wheezing, chest pains or severe cough. If you think you are having a medical emergency, seek immediate medical assistance.

People more likely to be impacted by outdoor air pollution, including people aged 65 and older, pregnant people, infants and young children, people with an existing illness or chronic health condition, and people who work outdoors, should reduce or reschedule strenuous activities outdoors and seek medical attention if experiencing symptoms.

Southgate has received a $20,000 cheque from Lystek as part of a unique revenue sharing agreement with the township.
President Rick Mosher presented Mayor Ann Marie Fosbrooke with the money. It's based on market sales of the biosolids based LysteGro fertilizer product produced at the plant using human waste sewage.
Mosher says the company is delivering on a promise of economic and environmental benefits for the community.
So far, Mosher says Lystek has invested over $10 million in the economy during construction, and another $750-thousand in land and development charges.
Mosher says the plant diverted 75-thousand cubic meters of organic material and converted it into fertilizer, which has been applied to 8-thousand acres of farmland.
