The Town Of Blue Mountains Reports Record Building Permit Activity

The Town of Blue Mountains says building permit activity in the first five months of 2015 has been the strongest in nearly a decade.

Officials say they've received 215 applications in the first five months of 2015, which is up 80% from the 118 they received up until May of 2014.

The town has issued 132 building permits this year with an associated construction value in excess of $38-million.

That includes a $10-million clubhouse at the Alpine Ski Club.

Building officials say it has been the second-most active first five months of the year on record, and the strongest since 2006.

“While residential activity has sharply increased so far this year, so has the commercial sector. A new Foodland, LCBO and a ski clubhouse building will be under construction in 2015 which is an excellent sign for our local economy," says Chief Building Official Greg Miller in a statement.

Town officials say they've seen 92 housing starts over the past 12 months to the end of May 2015, which is up from 54 this time last year.
