As Remembrance Day draws closer, many people throughout Midwestern Ontario have and continue to show their support during Remembrance Week, from residents to local business owners.
Many of the storefronts along Josephine St. in downtown Wingham are decorated with poppies, poems, pictures or some small display in support of Remembrance Day.
For some, just wearing a poppy all week is enough, while for others, like one small business owner, it's about respecting our veterans and those who gave so much for this country.
"Being opened for 15 years I've never put anything Christmas in the store until after Remembrance Day, we do the Remembrance Day window and save everything (else) for after Remembrance Day," says Margaret Shiestel, owner of Finishing Touches for the Home in Downtown Wingham. "It's important to thank them (our veterans) first and wait for Christmas until after."
While many stores remain open on Remembrance Day, some take the time to observe a moment of silence, again, in their own way.
"I'll close down for the hour and go over to the service at the Cenotaph," notes Shiestel.
The Remembrance Day Service will take place at the Cenotaph at the corner of John St. and Veterans Rd. in downtown Wingham at 11am Friday.
