Some local area musicians can now call themselves Juno award winners.
Last night, Mandroid Echostar won Best Metal Album for their album Coral Throne. Arthur native and Mandroid bassist Adam Richards, summed up how the band are feeling the day after.
"Nothing but excitement, really, and disbelief. Wrapping your head around this sort of honour is hard. But it's pretty cool. I'm flattered more than anything, and I think that's how everyone feels."
Adam and his brother, guitarist Steve Richards, as well as guitarist James Krul, hail from Arthur. Drummer Matt HK hails from Elora, and guitarist Sam Pattison and vocalist Michael Ciccia are from Guelph. Adam says it was wild to win up against bands like Protest The Hero and Despised Icon.
"It's weird to be up against people that you've looked up to for a long time, because all of a sudden we're considered euqals. But no, they've been doing it for years and they're there for a reason. It's way too cool to even be mentioned in the same sentence as those people."
Mandroid's now award winning album Coral Throne is their first full length record, and drew rave reviews nationwide upon release. The other nominees were Protest The Hero, Despised Icon, Devin Townsend Project, and Suicide Society.
