Fake $100 Bills In St. Marys

Counterfeit bills have been turning up in St. Marys.

The OPP have responded to four separate incidents of suspected counterfeit money being used at commercial businesses in the town.

The bills seized were all Canadian $100 denominations.

Business owners should be suspicious if these large denomination bills are used for relatively small purchases.

Suspected counterfeit bank notes must be turned over to police.  Police say timely reporting helps them and prosecutors identify suspects.

There has also been an increase in counterfeit $50 and $100 bills being circulated in London.

The Bank of Canada website has information about security features in Canadian and U.S. bank notes and training and educational materials, which can be found here.
