An Owen Sound District Secondary School teacher has earned a national 2017 Physical Health and Education Canada Award.
Aimee Vereecke was this year's winner of the Health Promoting School Champion Award for Canada.
A release says her colleagues nominated her for her commitment and enthusiasm in creating a healthy school environment.
Vereecke engages the whole school community in health promoting activities and achievements. She is the teaching lead in the provincial Youth Mental Health and Addiction Champion Project, which lead to the creation of a healthy schools road map. That resulted in the development of a community support room, a healthy schools team and an action plan focused on physical activity.
Vereecke will be recognized with a plaque and at the annual PHE Canada National Conference May 4 in St. John's Newfoundland.
“Aimee inspires and engages the whole school community to support a healthy schools approach.” says Pubic Health Nurse Lisa Prowd. “Aimee values and promotes health and well-being as a foundation for creating a healthy school environment. It is because of her commitment and leadership, that OSDSS is a healthier school.”
