Spring Weather Means Motorcycles

South Bruce OPP remind drivers to keep a close eye out for motorcyclists, who are back on the road as the weather warms up.

The OPP say motorcycles are more difficult to see than other vehicles, and it's easy to misjudge a motorcycle's speed and distance.

Don't pull out in front of, or cut off, a motorcycle.

Over a third of all crashes with motorcycles are intersection-related.

Police say drivers need to slow at intersections, and look very carefully for traffic, traffic control signals, cyclists and pedestrians.

Be cautious turning left in front of motorcycles, as some models have turn signals that don't automatically shut off, meaning signals could be left on by accident.

You can often tell if a motorcyclist is about to change lanes if they are shoulder checking or leaning.

Give other drivers space to change lanes, avoid cutting them off, signal your turns and lane changes properly.

Tailgating, speeding and aggressive driving is more dangerous to a motorcyclist who has less protection.

Drivers should report aggressive or unsafe drivers to police.
