A 72-year-old Wingham man has been found guilty of 16 sexual assault related charges.
Martin Cretier was originally facing a total of 39 charges, but ten of those were separated from the rest of the charges because of the time period in which they were laid. The remaining 29 charges were reduced to 16 to eliminate duplication, and it was on the remaining 16 that a jury of four men and eight women found Cretier guilty in Goderich court late Tuesday afternoon.
Cretier was charged in connection with assaults on victims who he met as an employee of the Wingham and District Hospital, or through his volunteer work with the Wingham Scout Troop.
Some of the charges date back to the early 1970s, and to the mid '90s. The victims were boys and young women.
Cretier remains out on bail.
Justice Peter Hockin set January 24 as the date for sentencing.
It was also agreed between the judge, Crown and defence that the jury for the trial on the remaining ten charges will be selected on June 18, and that trial will start as soon as the jury has been selected.
