Environment Canada says this weekend's snowy forecast and predicted drop in temperatures may cause slick, icy roads for drivers.
There is currently a special weather statement for London and Middlesex County, Oxford County, Huron County, Perth County, Grey County, Elgin County, the Bruce Peninsula, Chatham-Kent, Windsor-Essex, and Sarnia-Lambton.
Meteorologist Glenn Robinson says there is a series of weak weather systems moving across Southwestern Ontario on Saturday in the late afternoon and evening, as well as Sunday.
"We're not expecting any particularly heavy snow, but it will be snowing on and off--in fact, it will probably be snowing most of the time," says Robinson. "We're looking at total amounts of probably 5 to 10cm."
Snow totals may be a little higher in Midwestern Ontario. Environment Canada says up to 15cm is possible.
Robinson warns residents that Sunday's forecast may cause slippery roads.
"Temperatures are going to go above freezing during the day on [Sunday] and the snow will become quite wet. Then we're expecting temperatures to drop quite quickly in the late afternoon. There could be quite a bit of ice around [Sunday] afternoon, especially later in the day," he says.
According to Robinson, temperatures will be consistently below normal this upcoming week.
"We're actually looking at generally just a few flurries most days during the week. There is going to be a system passing just to our south on Wednesday. It currently looks like Southern Ontario will miss the bulk of the snow, so we're just suspecting to possibly get grazed by that in Southwestern Ontario," he explains.
