The Minister of Border Security and Organized Crime Reduction is inviting Canadians to share their view on ways to reduce violent crime related to handguns and assault weapons.
Bill Blair is encouraging residents to share their views online from now until November 10.
He said the online engagement will complement roundtables and discussions with stakeholders over the coming weeks.
He said part of his mandate is to keep communities safe by examining a ban of handguns and assault weapons in Canada, but the government does not want to impede the lawful use of firearms by Canadians.
In the meantime, M.P. Larry Miller has invited Blair to Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound to hear a different point of view, to get a rural perspective.
Blair has asked his staff to help set a date for a meeting in Grey Bruce.
"I understand the importance of hearing from all Canadians on this issue and I will make a sincere effort to ensure that every perspective is heard and respected," said Blair. "It is critical that we hear the diversity of views that impact communities and Canadians from across the country. This will provide an excellent opportunity to identify gaps, challenges, and ideas to help inform future measures aimed at reducing violent crimes in Canada."
