Sod turning marks start of new OPP building in Clinton

Several Provincial cabinet ministers, including Huron-Bruce M-P-P Lisa Thompson were on hand for yesterday's sod-turning for the new OPP detachment in Clinton.

Central Huron Mayor and Huron County Warden, Jim Ginn said, “I think it's a great day for Central Huron, particularly Clinton, because there's going to be a lot of people working out of Clinton every day and there's always spin-off benefits of that, restaurants and shops, so perhaps up to seventy jobs here at some date in the future.”

Ginn also points to the agreement earlier this week between Central Huron and the county that will see about twelve EMS administrative staff members move to space on the upper floor of the fire department, right across from the new OPP detachment.

Ginn added, “ There'll be about a dozen administrative staff from EMS moving to the upstairs of the fire hall and of course right across from our new OPP station, so we'll have all of our emergency services and safety people all in one little hub, centrally located in the county.”

Ginn says it makes sense to have them all in one area and in the quite likely event of a situation during a snowstorm they can all leave together and if they need it, one snow plow can lead the way.
