Former Bluewater Centre in Central Huron a focus for 2019

Huron County's director of economic development expects the former Bluewater Youth Centre property will come on the open market in the near future.

Cody Joudry said they have formed a working group to determine what could be done with the property to give the municipality and the county the best return.

Next month, they will release requests for expressions of interest from anyone interested in developing the property south of Goderich, and exactly what they'd proposed to do with it.

"That's one of the last large chunks of land on the coast and so what we've talked about is there's probably some great opportunity for public access but we're also interested in seeing the maximum employment benefit from there," said Joudry.

200 jobs were lost when the Bluewater Centre closed.

Central Huron will get the first opportunity to buy it at retail prices so the Economic Development Department is working to make sure that Central Huron is ready to take advantage of that opportunity.
