A former radio personality and current broadcast engineer who lives in Durham is running for the People’s Party of Canada in the Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound riding for upcoming federal election.
Bill Townsend said there were four principals that resonated with him; individual freedom, personal responsibility, respect and fairness.
"The thing that a new party needs to do is communicate what they plan to do to the people in the riding," said Townsend.
He said there is also a tax plan.
"Until you make $15,000 you don't make any income tax," said Townsend. "Then between $15,000 and $100,000 your tax rate would be 15 per cent as opposed to 17 per cent and whatever it is now. Already people that are in a marginalized position would be ahead in that system and I thought there is a real way to help people."
Townsend said he also feels voter turnout will be higher in this election.
The People’s Party of Canada was founded by former Conservative MP Maxime Bernier last year.
