June rainfall had a major impact on parts of Midwestern Ontario

Environment Canada Meteorologist Geoff Coulson says despite there being a good amount of rain in June, we didn't top the seasonal average in Midwestern Ontario.

Coulson says the seasonal average is 75.3 mm for June, and we came in at 70.9, but he says it felt like more because of how the rain fell.

"A few days here and there with really not much happening, and then suddenly we had 15 or 20 millimetres fall in a more concentrated shower or thunderstorm. So certainly spotty acitivity, but when the rain came it fell pretty steadily."

Going into July, Coulson notes the pattern will shift slightly in terms of temperature being more seasonal, but the rain pattern could be similar to June.

"The indications are for July as well more unsettled conditions which means we could go a few days with a fair amount of sunshine and no precipitation. But then we could see some very heavy localized showers and thunderstorm activity."

Coulson says despite not topping the monthly rainfall average for June, the heavy rainfall in large amounts combined with cooler than normal temperatures affected the area, particularly in the agriculture sector with delayed planting.
