An interim plan is in place to provide animal protection services to Huron County.
The Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (OSPCA) ceased animal cruelty enforcement in the province on June 28.
The Humane Society of Kitchener Waterloo and Stratford Perth (KWSPHS) and Sarnia & District Humane Society will work with Ontario's Solicitor General to provide interim services.

June 29 marked the start of interim animal protection services, as the province transitions to a new animal protection model in January 2020.
“Our organization remains committed to the animals in our communities and we are thrilled to work alongside the Solicitor General’s office and Sarnia and District Humane Society to provide interim animal protection services in Huron County,” said Kathrin Delutis, the executive director of the Humane Society of Kitchener Waterloo and Stratford Perth. “We feel it’s a vital service, one that we have the experience and resources to support.”
“We are very pleased with the government's efforts to ensure that an effective transition plan is in place for the remainder of the year to protect Ontario's animals," said Pyette. “We are ready to continue serving communities through animal protection, enforcement and investigation services and working with like-minded affiliates and other animal welfare professionals for the betterment of all animals.”
If people have concerns for animal cruelty, abandonment or neglect, they can contact the province’s new 24/7 reporting hotline at 1-833-9ANIMAL (1-833-926-4625) and calls will be dispatched to the appropriate authority.
