The Hanover Police Service is again warning residents about the dangers of opioids after officers learned a recent death in town was caused by carfentanyl.
On May 31, 2019. Hanover police responded to a residence where they found a 57-year-old man dead inside his apartment in the 500 block of 8th Avenue.
On Thursday, police received the toxicology report indicating the man died from a lethal overdose of carfentanyl.
Police said they believe the carfentanyl was mixed with fentanyl or methamphetamine. Carfentanyl is an opioid used by veterinarians for very large animals such as elephants. It is not for human use. It is approximately 100 times more toxic than fentanyl and 10,000 times more toxic than morphine.
