ABCA's Shoreline Management Plan leave some property owners uncertain

There have already been a number of delegations to the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority board, looking for exemptions from the new Shoreline Management Plan.

Water and Planning Manager Geoff Cade said property owners are hoping they can still do some work on their shoreline under the regulations that were in place before the new Shoreline Management Plan was approved earlier this spring.

"When the Shoreline Management Plan was approved, we did have a policy that was also approved by the board on how the implementation should be moving forward, and again the difficult part has been when we've been dealing with previous files, whether or not they've been caught in that transition period," said Cade.

The challenge is determining whether projects that would have qualified under the old regulations can be allowed to go ahead even though they may not qualify under the new Shoreline Management Plan.

No decisions on the exemption requests will be made until at least September.
