The level of interest in climate change is growing at the local level.
A Grey-Bruce group is hosting a panel discussion Thursday on what can be done, and directions needed to reduce the threat of climate change.
The four-person panel includes a municipal councillor, county planners, and a citizen climate campaigner.
The event is being put on by Bruce Grey Owen Sound Climate Action Team.
Communications chair Liz Zetlin said one of the first things needed to reduce the impact of climate change is to talk about it, and then put pressure on all levels of government.
The panel will be asked to address five specific questions: What does declaring a climate crisis mean? Why do young people – and why should we – care about the effects of climate change? Why is the need for climate change mitigation and adaptation a municipal issue? What can municipalities do to support climate change initiatives at the provincial, federal and international levels? What is the role of a citizen advisory committee?
The panel discussion is Thursday evening at 7 p.m. at the Harmony Centre in Owen Sound. Admission is free.
