The Billy Bishop Home and Museum wants to help people preserve their family history.
They will create a digital image of pictures, letters, diaries, newspaper clippings, posters, military documents or any other record related to the First and Second World Wars.
The museum wants to document the experience of both men and women who served during these wars either on the war front or at home. Plus treasured documents will be saved in the museum's digital archive
Digital Preservation Day is scheduled for Saturday, November 9 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Branch 6, Royal Canadian Legion in Owen Sound.
They will have items on display from many of the local serving units including the 31st Grey Regiment, 147th, 248th and 160th Battalions, in addition to the 98th Bruce Battery and the Grey and Simcoe Foresters. Also, our panel of experts would be more than willing to help you find out more details of a relative who served during one of the World Wars.
The museum said it has a special interest in the Liberation of the Netherlands during the Second World War as it is looking for artifacts, historical papers and personal accounts of civilian survivors of the occupation for an exhibit that OSDSS students are designing for next spring at the Musem called Liberation Spring: 75 Years of Freedom.
