Bruce County develops strategy to address labour shortage

Bruce County’s Planning and Development Committee has endorsed the new Workforce Development and Attraction Strategy to help address labour force challenges.

The Strategy will explore innovative ways of attracting, retaining, and training employees.

Analysis during the strategy’s creation found the region's available workforce dropped by nearly 11% between 2004 and 20-16. As well, about 22-thousand people are nearing retirement in the next five to ten years.

The new Workforce Development & Attraction is expected to help local businesses and entrepreneurs overcome labour force challenges with a focused 4-pronged approach: Continuous Data Collection, Attraction, Retention, and Skills Building.

Warden Mitch Twolan added, “Bruce County’s long-term economic success depends on the strength of businesses to attract, retain, and build skills to stay open, expand, and hand over to the next generation. Growth of a dedicated and skilled workforce in our communities is essential.”

Bruce County is an upper-tier municipality in Southwestern Ontario, Canada, made up of 8 lower tier municipalities and 68,423 residents.
