Huron County is partnering with United Way Perth Huron to better address homelessness in the county.
As part of the partnership, a new housing advocate has been hired to help local people experiencing homelessness. The hiring of the housing advocate is the latest part of the initiative that Huron County and United Way Perth Huron have undertaken with local community partners to address homelessness. In 2016, the county created the Huron Turning Point Residence, which is a transition home for men in Exeter. Last year, United Way Perth Huron raised funds for three additional beds at the residence.
The housing advocate will work with tenants and landlords to ensure the best outcomes for those experiencing homelessness, and will work with tenants to find the support they need so that their tenancy is successful.
“Hiring a housing advocate in Huron is another positive step towards eliminating the #UNIGNORABLE issue of chronic homelessness in Huron,” says UWPH Executive Director Ryan Erb. “Together with our partners at Huron County, we’re proud to play a role in this project and look forward to seeing the impact the housing advocate’s work can have in Huron.”
