New Stratford Police Funding

The Stratford Police Services will see an investment of $99,144 through an Ontario government initiative to re-invest cash seized from criminals,

That's according to a media release from Perth-Wellington MPP Randy Pettapiece.

The Stratford Police Services investment will go towards the purchase of a vehicle and resources to help address the basic needs of vulnerable people in the community.

The funds are part of an overall $2.5 million investment through the government’s Civil Remedies Grant Program. The program is reinvesting funds seized from criminals into 33 local crime-fighting projects across Ontario.

“Crime shouldn’t pay,” Pettapiece stated. “We depend on our local police services, and I’m pleased to announce this new funding.”

"We agree with law-abiding citizens who say crime should not pay and we have made it harder for criminals to hold onto the proceeds of their crimes through the Smarter and Stronger Justice Act, which was passed by the legislature earlier this year," said Attorney General Doug Downey.

Pettapiece concluded by thanking the Stratford Police Services, the Stratford Police Services Board and all police officers in Perth-Wellington: “We are so grateful for the work you do every day to keep our communities safe.”

Applications for the 2021/22 Civil Remedies Grant Program open November 3, 2020. Eligible applicants include Ontario and First Nation Police Services, not-for-profit groups, community agencies and Indigenous communities, and organizations that assist the victims of crime. The deadline to apply is December 15, 2020.
