The Town of South Bruce Peninsula has completed a recently commissioned market feasibility study for a potential resort hotel in Wiarton.
In a release on November 17, South Bruce Peninsula Council says the study "confirms market support for the possibility of an upscale, full-service soft branded hotel in Wiarton."
The study recommends an 80-unit hotel affiliated with the Tribute brand by Marriott. A hotel in Wiarton could potentially increase tax revenue, capital investment, tourism-related development and promotion, civic leadership and year-round jobs in the municipality, while making South Bruce Peninsula a tourist attraction.
The study was done by RevPar International, an independent third-party consultant that specializes in Hospitality Advisory and Asset Management services. Funding for the study came from a Provincial Tourism Development Fund Grant with contributions from Grey County, Bruce County and the Township of Georgian Bluffs, as a hotel would be a regional asset for the area.
“The town has taken an unprecedented first step towards the development of a hotel to anchor South Bruce Peninsula as a tourism destination”, says South Bruce Peninsula Mayor Janice Jackson.
“The final report and pitch-book provides the quantitative data that validates a developer's financial performance for hotel development,” said Danielle Edwards, economic development officer for the Town of South Bruce Peninsula.
