OPP warn of COVID-19 based scams

Scammers are hard at work trying to steal your money during the pandemic.

Several people have reported scams related to the pandemic to South Bruce OPP.

Those include a scam involving a phone call from a person claiming to be with an established health agency to notify the victim of exposure to the virus. The caller then asks for personal information and a fee to process test results. Another scam involves a person posing as a "Contractor" knocking on doors to "spray for COVID"

If it seems too good to be true it likely is. Remember that you can't win a lottery or contest that you didn't enter in the first place. You work hard for your money, so work just as hard to protect it.

Discuss fraud prevention tips with your friends, family members, neighbors, co-workers; let's stop fraud working together.

Anyone interested in more information on fraud can contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1 888 495 8501 or check online.

The South Bruce OPP is requesting anyone with information to call 1-888-310-1122. Should you wish to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
