Physician recruitment success celebrated in Grey Bruce

Grey Bruce Health Services has recognized fourteen new physicians and one midwife who have moved to the Grey Bruce area in the past year. The new group of physicians includes specialists in Dentistry, Family Practice, Geriatrics, Medical Imaging, Obstetrics, Gynecology, Pathology and Psychiatry.

A media release says the new physicians will be working throughout the Grey Bruce region. Last year nine physicians moved to the area.

The market for attracting physicians is extremely competitive, and GBHS works with many community and municipal partners to recruit physicians to the area. Recruitment for Anesthesiologists is particularly challenging, with a number of vacancies across the country. A recent posting for a new orthopedic surgeon has attracted a number of applicants, and GBHS hopes to have a new surgeon in place in the coming months.

“This year’s incoming group of medical professionals is the largest that we’ve seen in many years,” said Gary Sims, GBHS President and CEO. “We are also very pleased to see that five of the new physicians have local roots, and have returned home to practice.”

“The number of medical professionals who have chosen this area in the past year demonstrates that Grey Bruce is a great place to live and work, and we hope this trend continues,” said Sims.

At the annual event, GBHS also welcomed two new Family Medicine Residents from McMaster University. The Family Medicine residents complete two years of training with the Owen Sound Family Health Team, with specialty rotations completed across the GBHS family of hospitals.
