The Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority's Oaks and Acorns program is back for a second year.
Conservation Educator Nina Sampson explains the program is for children between the ages of 2 and 4 years old, with an adult caregiver.
Part of the premise behind the program is that kids should spend as much time outdoors as possible and fall is such a great time of year to be outside, new smells, colours and changes in the forest and the weather.
“It covers a wide range of topics and there are lots of ways we give the children tools to explore with. We start each session with a story and then it's really up to the children as to where their curiosity takes them,” said Sampson. “We're happy to offer families advice on how to dress for the weather if they need it and we can take up to ten families per sessions, so that would be usually one adult caregiver and up to two children. So we could have up to 30 people.”
Oaks and Acorns starts on October 5 and takes place on Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and the program runs for four weeks at a time.
Other sessions are offered for the months of November, December and January and parents can sign up for all four monthly sessions online.
Sampson notes they're happy to offer families advice on how to dress for the weather if they need it and they can take up to ten families per session.
