Saugeen Shores Council received a 2021 year end progress report this week. The staff report says of the 37 initiatives reported on, the town achieved an overall 84% completion rate.
“2021 was a year of significant achievement for the Town of Saugeen Shores” said Luke Charbonneau, Mayor. “We made major progress on key priorities like physician recruitment, housing and strengthening relationships with our First Nation neighbours. We also have our first-ever formal Business Plan in place for 2022 so we can more easily track and report on our efforts to manage our growth, improve our efficiency and realize a higher quality of life for every resident.”
Highlights include a land claim settlement reached with Saugeen Ojibway Nation, and phase one construction completed for the Lamont Sports Park.
The Saugeen Shores Attainable Housing Task Force report was issued and the town hired of a dedicated Housing Coordinator. As well, Phase 3 construction on Bruce Road 25 was completed.
Five new physicians were recruited, a second nurse practitioner was added at the health clinic, and a new Same-Day Urgent Care clinic opened.
Ten major initiatives, such as the Cedar Crescent Village project, Harbour Dock Improvement and Summerside Park Development planning, will be carried into 2022.
Looking ahead to 2022, senior staff and Council will be following the 2022 Business Plan that will be coming to Council for final approval on January 24
