A St. Paul's family escaped their burning home without injuries thanks to their smoke alarms.
Fire Prevention officer James Marshall says the fire broke out around midnight Friday and appears to have started in the back of the building.
Marshall says the family was already out of the house when fire crews arrived thanks to their smoke alarms.
"The smoke alarms that sounded are something that is now installed in all new builds," explained Marshall. "So this isn't a very old home. The smoke alarms that sounded for them had a strobe, carbon monoxide alarm, and smoke detector alarm."
Marshall says a strobe light will flash when the unit detects smoke or carbon monoxide.
Perth East and West Perth Fire Chief William Hunter tweeted early Friday morning that fire fighters from the Sebringville station responded with help from the Shakespeare station and Milverton's aerial truck. They also had to call in mutual aid tanker support from the Town of St. Marys.
No one was hurt and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
